ABSTRACT:
This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of care bundle on health practices and functional ability among patients with interstitial lung diseases (ILD) attending Govt. Medical College Hospital, Kottayam. A quantitative, quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design was employed. The sample consisted of 70 patients (35 each in the experimental and control group), selected using non-probability purposive sampling. The study was guided by Betty Newman’s Systems Model. Data were collected using a socio-personal and clinical data sheet, a rating scale to assess health practices, and the Functional Performance Inventory – Short Form (FPI-SF) to measure functional ability. A pretest was conducted on day one, followed by the introduction of a care bundle to the experimental group. The care bundle included structured teaching, walking exercises, controlled and diaphragmatic breathing exercises, and resistance and endurance exercises. A posttest was conducted on the 29th day. The results showed significant improvements in both health practices (p<0.001) and functional ability (p<0.001) in the experimental group. A moderate positive correlation between health practices and functional ability was found (p=0.05). There were no significant associations between health practices and functional ability and demographic variables like age, gender, smoking status, or work nature.
