ABSTRACT:
Dialysis is the treatment of choice for ESRD. Haemodialysis patients’ usually experience high level of psychological stress, anxiety and depression and these patients should be provided with more psychological resources to cope up with their psychological situation. Dialysis is a life changing event that can create an overwhelming amount of stress for a dialysis patient. Since, dialysis is a lifelong therapy, patients had reported that the time seems much longer to pass and difficult to spend, which may impact the quality of life of a patient by creating numerous health issues. Hence investigator decided to assess the level of stress among haemodialysis patients at selected hospital, Bangalore with a view to develop and distribute information booklet on coping strategies. Title of the Study: A study to assess the level of stress among haemodialysis patients at selected hospital, Bangalore with a view to develop information booklet on coping strategies. Objectives: 1. To assess the level of stress among haemodialysis patients. 2. To find the association between the stress level among haemodialysis patients with their selected socio demographic variables. Hypotheses: H1: There will be significant association between stress level of haemodialysis patients with their selected socio demographic variables. Methodology: A Nonexperimental Descriptive design and Exploratory research approach was used in the study. The data was collected from 100 subjects, through Convenient sampling technique. Data was collected using Hemodialysis stress Scale (HSS). Results: The overall analysis of level of stress of hemodialysis patients showed that the mean stress scores of respondents in the physiological stressors were found to be 16.59 (79%) with standard deviation 2.161 and in the mean stress score of psycho-social stressors was 57.13 (76.17%) with the standard deviation of 5.933. The overall mean of stress score found to be 73.72 (76.79%) with the standard deviation of 7.103 which indicates severe stress among Hemodialysis patients. Interpretation and Conclusion:
Findings of the study show that there was a severe stress among Hemodialysis patients and there was a significant association between level of stress of hemodialysis patients and selected demographic variables such as gender and history of co-morbidity.
