ABSTRACT:
The aim of the study is find out the Effectiveness of Structured Teaching Programme On Knowledge Regarding Management of Modifiable Risk Factors of Coronary Artery Disease Among Patient’s Newly Diagnosed With Diabetes Mellitus In A Selected Out Patient Department Of NRI General Hospital. Methods and Materials: A quantitative research approach with pre-experimental one group pretest posttest design was adopted. A total of 60 samples were selected using the non-probability sample technique. A structured knowledge questionnaire was used to collect the data from the sample. The data was analyzed by using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Results: In the present study, majority (73.3%) in the pretest had inadequate knowledge while majority (63.3%) in the posttest had adequate knowledge regarding management of modifiable risk factors of coronary artery disease. The pretest mean score was 13.1 with a standard deviation of 3.9 while in the posttest mean score was 24.2 with a standard deviation of 4.1 The calculated paired-t’ test is 14.4 which is higher than the table value at 0.05 level of significance. Hence, the researcher accepted the H1. This indicates that the Structured Teaching Programme is effective in improving the knowledge of the patients newly diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus regarding management of modifiable risk factors of coronary artery disease. In the present study, among the selected socio demographic variables, the history of heart disease (?2 =8.82) was found significant with pretest knowledge at 0.05 level of significance while the rest of the variables were found non-significant. Hence, the researcher accepted the H2. Among the selected socio demographic variables, the age (?2 =11.3) and the family history of heart disease (?2 =6.00) were found significant with post-test knowledge at 0.05 level of significance while the rest of the variables were found non-significant. Hence, the researcher accepted the H2. Conclusion: Various educational programmes are necessary to provide knowledge to patients newly diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus about the management of modifiable risk factors of coronary artery disease.
